

Table of HIV infections in
sub-Saharan Africa
This table lists the countries in sub-Saharan Africa in decreasing
order according to the number of people infected with HIV (UNAIDS,
2001). Six of the top ten countries with the highest numbers of
infected people have subtype C as the major circulating subtype
indicating a possible causal relationship between the presence of this
subtype and the number of infections in the six countries (also see the map on subtype C infections).
The major subtypes circulating in any one country are indicated with
bold type.
